Memorial Day Weekend

Like I mentioned in my last post, Chelsey and I did a blogger exchange. Look at all the TJ’s stuff she got me!:

Dark Chocolate covered Cranberries (devoured!), banana chips, peanut butter, edamame crackers, hustard, cinnamon almonds, cacao nibs, chocolate, fruit leather, and some ample packs! I feel so spoiled 🙂 .

I can’t wait to do another swap with someone! This was my first one ever, and I really enjoyed the experience and learned some stuff along the way. Anyone want to set one up with me?

My next GI check-up is in mid-June and there’s actually a TJ’s in the same town. And guess what? My mom says that we can go after my appointment! I can’t wait. I’ve never been to a TJ’s and this is the closest one around and it’s over an hour and a half away. You will all have to give me product recommendations and tell me what to get!

As you know, I drove up to visit my boyfriend for the weekend. Now, you may not know this about me, but I really really hate driving. When it’s just around my own town I’m usually okay, but this involved a lot of highway and interstate driving and I was a nervous wreck the entire time. Sweating out of every orifice. I only got lost at the very end because the directions that I were given were wrong.

It was so nice to just be able to be with him for a night. We made dinner together (not the greatest tasting, but fun nonetheless) and just watched random TV shows and movies on TV. We even had an early night because I was basically comatose after having had my long run earlier that day and then driving up soon after (driving is physically exhausting, I don’t care what people say).

Other than my one little breakdown, I did okay all things considering. It helped that I picked traveling times that I knew would be light on the traffic. Also, cruise control really freaks me out! As you can probably tell, I have a few stress/anxiety issues, but outside of scheduling and times where I just feel like I’m short on time, traveling is really the only time that it comes out in full-force.

Classic pre- long run breakfast fare. Oat bran with protein powder, almond extract, cherries, Crofter’s Superfriut spread, flaxseed meal, chia seeds, and almond butter. I love topping hot things with frozen fruit because they melt and leave their loverly, delicious juices everywhere.

For my long-run this weekend, I did a nice 8-miler (and some change).

Mile 1: 9:05
Mile 2: 8:46
Mile 3: 8:32
Mile 4: 8:18
Mile 5: 8:11
Mile 6: 8:08
Mile 7: 8:08
Mile 8: 8:03
Mile 8.15: 1:12
Total: 1:08

I ran into a few stomach problems, but nothing like last week’s side stitch that benched me for the rest of my run. I really just focused on my breathing and was able to comfortably and safely finish my run. It was especially nice because it was just spitting rain out, which I find the best to run in because I don’t get overheated. I also tried out the Mandarin Orange flavored Gu gel. It tasted just like a creamsicle!

On Sunday, I ran a quick 2-miles as a recovery run to stretch my legs after my long run the day before. I also did some strength training by trying out Ripped in 30, Level 2 this time since I thought that Level 1 was a little too easy for me. Level 2, however, kicked my arsh! I did my recovery run and the DVD back-to-back because I wanted to get it all out of the way while I was dressed for it, motivated, and already sweaty, but I still think that, had I not just run, I would still have found Week 2 just as hard.

I have no classes or work tomorrow because it’s Memorial Day. I plan on just taking it easy. I have done all of my readings and homework for Tuesday, but I may start reading ahead. It’s also my yoga day, and since I’m at home all day I’ll probably do my Biggest Loser DVD that I haven’t used in a few weeks. I’ve almost finished reading a book about Celiac disease/gluten-free living, and once I’m done with that I think I’m going to start reading The Hunger Games as well as continue reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Since getting my Kindle, the latter hasn’t made much progress since I don’t bring it to campus with me. I may have to make a conscious effort to.

  1. I’d be up for an exchange.. sounds fun!
Pretty much everything at TJ’s is good. I love their plain, crunchy peanut butter. It has one ingredient and its only 2 bucks!
Also- -pretty much all their trail mixes and nuts are delicious.
And.. the bagged cut and washed kale for 2 bucks!!
Oh,and all their fun “goodies” that they have in the tubs like your chocolate cranberries came in. They have TONS of stuff to choose from.
But my favorite treat from TJ’s is the super chewy chocolate chip cookies. They are seriously amazing.

  2. I love Trader Joe’s. Here are some of my faves:

Roasted Plantain chips – so good!
    Chocolate covered sunflower seeds
    Raisin and Rosemary crackers
    Roasted Almond Butter w/flax seeds
    their salsas are delish
Spicy tortilla chips with flax seeds
    Superfruit spread

I could go on and on! You’ll see when you get there – everything is amazing!!! 🙂

  3. I love the idea of a blogger exchange always!! Your loot looks fab.
I also hate driving. I’m 20 and I don’t even had a permit. I tried driving the other day and laughed hysterically the entire time because I couldn’t imagine why anyone liked it.
Things I’m fond of at TJs: EVERYTHING!! okay, so I love their hummus trio and the Middle East Feast meal. mmmm

  4. I would be interested in doing a swap! I have never done one before, but it looks really fun. Please let me know if you are interested. I came across your blog via Chelsey’s. glad I found it! 🙂
