Protein voluminous oatbran for breakfast, because it had been awhile since I’d made any and I knew that I would be running in my KIN class later that morning.
Oat bran with vanilla Sun Warrior, mixed with almond extract and flaxseed meal, and topped with cherries, cinnamon, Crofter’s Superfruit spread, and almond butter.
After the lecture portion of my Kinesiology class, we headed over to the track for a cardio workout. We ran for 1 minute at a high intensity and then jogged/walked for 2 minutes at a medium intensity. We did this 6 times for a total of 18 minutes and I was able to go around the track about 8.25 times in that time span, which comes out to just over 2 miles. I jogged during the medium intensity periods, because I find it easier for me to go back to running if I’m already sort of moving.
I actually really liked this workout, surprisingly since I’m not a huge fan of running in circles. I didn’t use any music and the time didn’t really seem to drag on or anything. I guess it helped that there were about 30 other people out there with me, although I was running to the beat of my own drum.
After KIN, I headed over to Spanish. Nothing major happened there, just need to put the finishing touches on my presentation for class on Friday. “La familia de Ellen” slideshow is coming together quite nicely and I think I should do well as long as I don’t stumble over my words too badly. I have a hard enough time with that in English let along in another language!
I don’t have work on Wednesdays, so I went home and then went out for the rest of my run. Since I had already done 2 miles this morning, I did another 4 miles at home to get me to 6 for the day as per my training plan. The fact that it was National Running Day was just a plus. I felt good and I’m really seeing that “runner’s tan” start to develop which makes me smile inside just a little. Don’t worry, I put sunscreen on. I’ve also been listening to my iPod at a lower volume, so I can be more in tune with my body and my surroundings, but still have that little bit of motivation I get from the music and bumping bass. Always have safety in mind, runners! (Especially you women runners out there!)
For dinner, what I really wanted was a smoothie. But, I knew that I needed to get some good protein in and add some variety to my diet. So, I made a wrap instead. Seitan seasoned with garlic and onion powders with red pepper hummus, spinach, carrots, nutritional yeast, and a little balsamic dressing.
Okay, okay. It’s more of a salad on top of a wrap because the wrap just couldn’t hold in all of the epicness, but it has all of the same components as a wrap!
Sometimes you just have to go against your cravings in favor of what you know you should eat. At least I’m recognizing my cravings, and, while the majority of the time I respect them, I just had to go against them this time.
After a well deserved shower, dessert was served. Sliced Pink Lady apples with cinnamon and a side of brand-new PB&Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl for dippage action.
