It’s The Journey… Or Is It?

Thank you for the kind words everyone, I’m still waiting to hear back from the professor, but if I don’t hear back from her by the end of Thursday (1 week from when I got the news), I’m supposed to start contacting the higher-ups. I hate waiting and I hate uncertainty. I know that the journey is more important than the result, blah blah blah, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m impatient πŸ™‚ .

Overall, yesterday was a pretty good day. It started with my long run, of course. But it was very veryΒ hard. The forecast said when I left that the temperatures would stay in the low 70s. Well, turns out that was wrong and I ended up running in 80+deg direct sun. I thank my lucky stars that my boyfriend got me a fuel belt for my birthday and that I thought to bring it with me, or else I honestly may have been stranded somewhere unable to move from dehydration. Even with the water bottle, though, and even though it was filled with Gatorade rather than just water, it was not nearly enough liquid and I think that I would have performed much better had I brought more. I ended up basically rationing what I had rather than downing it all at once.

Yes, I started having a few pains near the end of my run. Actually, I didn’t feel very good for the majority of this run. I definitely think that this was due to needing more liquids. There was very little shade and almost zero cloud coverage, which didn’t help the situation. But since I was still able to breathe okay, I didn’t want to stop. So, instead I walked/jogged and stretched as I went along for a few minutes. I would rather finish what I started than not finish at all, even if that means that I’m walking across the finish line rather than running. Β It’s true, I do have a time goal for my half marathon this September, but my #1 goal is to finish. I don’t even look at my pace when I run and I only look at the time to figure in when to drink water or take my gels. I just want to get the distance in, no matter how long it takes (although faster is always better πŸ™‚ ).

Peanut Butter Protein (Microwave) Muffin

Yesterday, I was super productive (although I still didn’t study). I went to the post office and mailed packages to my giveaway winner and a pretty cool little lady. Afterwards, I had some time to kill before I met up with a friend, so I went shopping at a new secondhand store in town called Re-Threads. I actually ended up finding a dress for a wedding that I’m going to in October that I didn’t hate! And at just $15, even if I don’t end up wearing it I still consider it worth the purchase. I don’t have a picture yet, but I’ll post a picture when the ceremony happens. It’s blue/green, which was really the only criterion that I had when I started looking about 2 months ago. It was probably a Homecoming dress at one point, but I think that it will still look fine.

After shopping, I went to a coffee shop to meet with my friend, the girl that I will be living with next year. I sipped on a PiΓ±a Colada smoothie (so good!) as we talked. We honestly just sat there for 3 hoursΒ talking and talking. It didn’t feel like we were there for that long at all! I really think that next year will be so much better for me and she will just make it all the better. We’re alike in a lot of ways, which can be bad, but I think that it’s in ways that work together rather than clash like in my last apartment situation.

As for today, I’m hoping to go to my first ever yoga class later this evening. I’m kind of scared! I’ll be doing it by myself in a studio that I’ve never been to, but I’ll at least be getting extra credit for my Kinesiology class. Plus, who knows, if I end up liking this studio then I’ll have a place to go to do my weekly yoga workout! I’ll let you all know how it went in my next post, whenever that will be.

    I love getting up early and running on the weekends. That’s what I did yesterday too. Except I only ran 4 miles. I guess I’m not as hardcore as you! Haha! πŸ˜‰

  2. Nice Run! I have taken yoga classes before and my favorite are Hot yoga classes! You get such a great workout an feel SO looooose after words!

  3. Oooh that run sounds rough. I hate when the weather lies, thank goodness you had that fuel belt. I’ve never used one before, but I’ve also never run further than 6 miles in intense heat. Actually, I ran a 10 mile race, but there were lots of water stations.
    I’ve only been to bikram yoga classes. I’d love to try a power yoga class sometime. One that’s more of a workout and less relaxation.

  4. Running in the heat is tough, great run, you are speedy! I have only ever taken 1 yoga class. It was at a gym and no good at all. I have done it at home though and enjoy it. Good luck with it, I’m sure you’ll love it.

  5. I love yoga I do it all the time its really what keeps me sane sometimes…. and that protein muffin looks amazing I need to make one asap!

    I am going to be the odd-ball here and say that I haven’t found a yoga class that I find enjoyable yet. I didn’t get as good of a stretch as I thought I would have – but I haven’t tried hot yoga yet – maybe that’s the secret πŸ˜‰

    • 1/4 c peanut flour
      1/2 t baking soda
      cinnamon
      1 flax egg (1 T flaxseed meal + 3 T warm water)
      2 T applesauce
      1 t vanilla

      Mix it up and pour into a mug. Microwave for 1.5-2 minutes. I took this one out at 1.5 because I wasn’t sure on timing, but I would probably have liked it better had it been left in a little longer.
