Star-Spangled Weekend

Happy 4th Everyone!

Since I knew that I would be gone for a few days out of town to celebrate the holiday/long weekend, I decided to get my long run in on Friday before we (the boyfrand and I) left for his parents’ place. It wasn’t too bad! I feel like I’ve cut down so much in my running in favor of cross-training. Not that that’s a bad thing or anything, it just makes me more nervous about my runs.

Not too shabby considering I felt pretty off all last week ever since after my race. B T Dubs, I found a not terrible picture from when I was sprinting to the finish and I’m actually deciding to post it on here. Enjoy!

Leg muscles for the win!

After I packed and cleaned myself up after my run, it was off on the road. Okay, it’s really only about an hour or so away, but it was still ridiculously nice to get away for the weekend. We got there pretty late on Friday, so we pretty much just went to bed.

The house is usually pretty chill and quiet until at least noon when we decide what we’re going to do for the day. On Saturday, we went and saw one set of the boyfrand’s grandparents at the lake. It was ver, ver hot (with humidity it had a RealFeel of over 100deg) so we mostly just sat outside and ate and talked, although I did get to play a few rounds of Euchre (you HAVE to know how to play this card game if you live in Michigan)!

After the sun went down, we took the pontoon out onto the lake to watch fireworks show #1. It was pretty nice except for getting attacked and being a human resting place for dozens of gnats. Yuck! Once again, afterwards it was pretty late and we went to bed as soon as we got back to the house.

Sunday was pretty much just his parents and us on their boat in a different lake to go fishing. Yes, I am a vegan, but we tossed back the fish that we caught (I actually caught one and almost got another). So don’t attack me people! I did more tanning than anything else, haha. I’m glad to report that I didn’t burn this year nor did I cut/hurt myself on anything either. Instead, I’m very pleasantly a few shades darker and my mom said that she almost didn’t recognize me except for my trademark softball sweatpants from high school 🙂 .

Once home, I made up a Green Monster, of course, since I hadn’t had one in days. My diet has sucked so much this weekend and I couldn’t eat any of the things that I craved or wanted because I was away. Once that was done, I did some yoga. Taking two days off was a terrible idea. My body feels so weak from not doing anything but sitting and sleeping. So, yoga kicked my butt… and my arms… and my abs… but mostly my arms.

After that we went and watched Independence Day (it’s a tradition of mine to watch that movie for the 4th every year). Now, as I’m writing this, we’re waiting to go pick up some food to eat for dinner since there is nothing in my house. My mom and I had gone grocery shopping on Thursday, but I didn’t get anything because I knew that I would be gone and didn’t want everything to go bad or get so ripe that I had to rush to eat it all when I got back.

Luckily, my IBS was kept at bay the entire time I was away. But I credit that mostly to the fact that I couldn’t eat when I wanted and what I wanted. Literally. I was hungry all the time and I felt terrible because there was nothing I could do about it. We somehow convinced the boyfrand’s family to let us cook a vegan meal for them (they didn’t like it, but hey at least they ate it!) and other than that I’m pretty sure I lived off of pretzels. Needless to say, I feel pretty crappy physically right now and my intestines are now in complete disarray. No sooner had I arrived back home and now I’m feeling a bit sick. My medications were also completely screwed up because I couldn’t eat when I wanted/needed to.

Not that I don’t love his family and that they don’t love me, they are just on very different schedules. They never eat breakfast and hardly eat lunch whereas I wake up starving every day and have to eat right away and multiple times before the clock ever even strikes noon. But, I received some possibly ver good news about next year, but since it’s so far away in the timeline I’m going to hold off on that bit of news for now, okay?

Now I’m trying to battle off a wave of nausea that hit like a ton of bricks. Not good.

Classes for the second summer session start tomorrow. Break is over for me. Still have to figure out my new work schedule for the next two months, but I guess I’ll come to that when it comes up on Wednesday.

  1. Well I’m glad you had a fun weekend…even if everything on the food front wasn’t that great! I’m sorry there were so little options for you….maybe pack some food next time? I always try and bring some easy stuff when i go away..just little staples to get me through in case there aren’t many healthy or adaptable options for me.

    Can’t wait to here about your good news!!

  2. Hmmm…quinoa, blueberries and almond butter sounds awesome!! I have never heard about Euchre – but I don´t live in Michigan, so I think that´s just OK 🙂

  3. Sounds like you had a really awesome time!!! Sorry that there were no food options for you…I hate when that happens! That’s why I don’t go anywhere without a huge almond butter stash and a crap load of bars 🙂
