Hello, friends! Sorry that I haven’t been around. Like I said before, things have been changing quite a bit over here on my end and blogging has just become not that important to me. Don’t get me wrong, I still go through my Google Reader religiously, I just don’t enjoy writing like I used to or posting pictures, workout, and recipes.
I’m still working out like it’s my lifeline, because it is. Working out gives me more joy than any other “hobby” that I have and if I had to give it up things probably wouldn’t end up so good for me and everyone around me. I’ve sort of half-assed been training for a half marathon in mid-September and another will be coming around near the end of October. Honestly, I’m loving my strength workouts much more than my running workouts, but I want medals for my display rack dammit!
Summer is quickly coming to an end and with it classes will soon once again consume my life. I think that the only thing that will keep me sane is knowing that I’ll be living with my best friend in the entire world. Girlfriend’s moving out of the nest and into the cold, cruel world along with me, haha.
I dyed my hair red and am trying to let it grow out. Maybe a few more inches and I’ll finally be happy with it. I really like the new color and I’ve gotten nothing but compliments on it. It really stands out in the sun and goes really well with my eye color and skin tone. I totally look like Ariel, don’t you agree?
I’ve also been playing around with my diet more. Lately, I’ve been switching to a more Paleo-style of eating. For me, this has meant less grains (whole wheat, quinoa, and rice included), more fats, and expanding the limited protein sources that I’ve been keeping myself to.
That’s right people, I had red meat for the first time in nearly 8 years this past week. AND IT WAS GOOD. My body was craving it. I knew that it was craving it. And I gave it exactly what I wanted and it was satisfied. A lot of the information and cooking is new to me, but I’m soaking it all up and am searching for more.
If you’re wondering why I decided to do this, I think that that’s another post for another time, but if you think it’s because I jumped on the CrossFit bandwagon you’d be wrong… I can’t afford CrossFit, haha. Maybe some day… In the mean time, I’m gaining strength and hopefully won’t have to be on the very beginner levels when I start.
But, I’m pretty excited about it all the same. I started stocking up on some essentials this past week when I went grocery shopping and tonight I made my first new recipe: Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo. I used to LOVE this dish when I was a kid. Shrimp, pasta, and a heavy cream sauce? Delicious, durh!
I found the “alfredo” sauce recipe online (no dairy on Paleo, so this is vegan-friendly!), then I used spaghetti squash instead of pasta. I was surprised by how much I liked it! And it was incredibly filling because you have the protein punch of the shrimp and fat punch from the sauce (it’s cashew-based!). I’ve been eating Paleo pancakes in the morning all week this week as well! All it is is a banana mixed with 1 egg (with some cinnamon and flax thrown in) and cooked just like a pancake! Carrots ‘N Cake makes them all the time.

I have a feeling that this year is going to be quite a bit… different than the past two that I’ve been blogging for. I started blogging when I took running back up in Summer 2010. Here I am 2 years later and I feel like an entirely different person, and in several ways I really am. I haven’t decided yet if I’m happy about all of those differences, but I am who I am and you can like it or you can leave me alone. I hope that you’ll stick with me through it!
